The theater was built by the Romans who occupied the city of Aspendos. This theater is the best preserved in Asia Minor. Aspendos was abandoned as much of the eastern ancient cities around the 7th century because of Arab invasions. This would explain his amazing conservation today is that 13th century a sultan fell in love with the theater was restored.
