Crete is a Greek island. Crete extends over 260 km from east to west and 60 km from north to south. Crete has an area of 8,400 square kilometers. It is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily, Sardinia, Cyprus and Corsica. Crete is mountainous with three massifs which are, Mount Psiloritis also called Mount Ida in the center culminating at 2456 meters, Mount Dikti to the east culminating at 2148 meters and the Samaria Gorge to the West with above Mount Pachnes culminating at 2452 meters.

Heraklion :

Arrival in Heraklion and discovery of a city with many monuments, especially Venetian, such as Saint Mark's Church, St. Peter's and St. Paul's Monasteries, St. Tite's Church, Venetian Loggia, Venetian Candia with its " Water supply for the many fountains of the city such as the Morosini fountain located in the pedestrian street leading to the port. This port which retains some Venetian elements like the fortress of Koules. Museums: the archaeological museum which houses the world's most important collection of Minoan objects. The museum of natural history on the fauna and flora of Crete. The historical museum which is a complement to the archaeological museum with exhibits until the time of the twentieth century. These are also pedestrian streets with traditional traders and restaurants.



Chania :

Departure from Heraklion to Paleochora. We make a stop in Chania. We discover friendly pedestrian streets, a market, the Orthodox Cathedral and its old Venetian harbor with its 15th century lighthouse.



Paleochora to the gorges of Anydri :

Hiking from Paleochora through the gorges of Anydri and its village to the site of Lissos. Beautiful views in this Mediterranean climate. Elevation of more than 250 m to less than 250 m.



Lissos - Sougia :

Continue through trays, gorges and pine forests, to Sougia.
Overnight in Sougia.



Samaria National Park :

Climb Samaria National Park and short transfer to Omalos for a night in a mountain lodging with goat cheese tasting.



Xiloskalo - Mont Gingilos :

Transfer from Omalos to Xiloskalo (1200m) and then climb Mount Gingilos (2080m). Along the way, great view of the Samaria Gorge and the White Mountains. From the top, view of Hania, Mount Pachnes (2452m) and the coast. Descent, lunch of an omelette with the goat at the lodging of Xiloskalo and return to the lodging of Omalos for the night.



Gorge of Samaria :

Transfert d'Omalos à Xiloskalo (1200m) puis descente des gorges de Samaria. La première partie de la randonnée est en pente raide mais ensuite, nous atteignons le cœur des gorges et nous suivons le lit de la rivière. Arrivée au village d'Agia Roumeli pour une baignade bien méritée. Le soir dîner et nuit à Agia Roumeli.



Agia Roumeli :

Day in the village of Agia Roumeli. No road arrives at Agia Roumeli, which is accessible only by the sea or by the path of the gorge of Samaria. We will still hike on the heights of the village until the ruins of an ancient Venetian fortification.



Agia Roumeli - Marmara Beach - Loutro :

Departure from the village of Agia Roumeli, along the coast to the chapel of Agio Pavlos, then by the cliff we reach the beach of Marmara located at the exit of the gorges of Aradena. After a lunch break over the beach and swimming we continue up to Loutro. Loutro, a beautiful little village where we spend the night. The next morning, hike to the village of Livianana through the terraced cultivation and descent of the gorges of Aradena to the beach of Marmara. Return to Loutro.



Mont Psiloritis :

In the early morning, transfer to the foot of Mount Psiloritis to make its ascent. It is the highest point of the island, it points at 2456 meters. It offers beautiful views.
